QI of Davao City, the
Philippines
Neonatal Hearing Screening Program
The Quota Club of Davao City made history
in 2007 by convincing local lawmakers to
mandate universal infant hearing screening
for all newborns in the community. The club
has worked tirelessly ever since to publicize
the new law and the availability of
screening, improve the screening center in a
local hospital, and establish hearing clinics
throughout Mindanao. The club is currently
working to establish a mobile screening
program by purchasing a vehicle and
another otoacoustic emission (OAE) system
and enhancing the hospital-based screening
center with the purchase of an auditory
brainstem evoked (ABR) testing machine.
Donations will cover needed supplies and
equipment, transportation expenses, and a
secretary’s salary to manage the screening program.

SOUND BEGINNINGS - SIEMENS HEARING AIDS PROJECT

Quota International of Metro Denver celebrated the 90th Birthday of Quota International by honoring its Sound Beginnings hearing aids recipients. This event was held on February 7, 2009 in the Community Room at the Aurora Central Library. Most of our hearing aid recipients and their families were able to attend, and Siemens Hearing Instruments sent several representatives. We thank them for their participation, with special thanks to Dr. Thomas Powers, our guest speaker.

Each hearing aid recipient received a gift bag, which included a plush Micky Mouse provided by Siemens through its partnership with Disney! Quota also provided refreshments, munchies, and a special birthday cake, wishing Quota International a Happy 90th Birthday!

Sound Beginnings is a joint program established by Quota International and Siemens Hearing Instruments to ensure that all infants born are screened for hearing loss and receive the proper treatment. Quota clubs promote hearing screening in hospitals, educate parents about the importance of testing their children, and help hospitals perform testing. Now, with the support of Siemens Hearing Instruments, Quota will provide hearing aids to Quota International for distribution to babies and children up to 17 years old whose families cannot afford hearing aids and whose health insurance does not cover them. Quota of Metro Denver had 18 applicants accepted into this pilot program, receiving a total of 35 hearing aids. Supplementary services that recipients cannot afford and are not covered by insurance will be financed by Quota of Metro Denver for up to one year following the initial fitting. These services include fittings, ear molds, follow-up appointments, and batteries. If you wish to make a donation to this specific program, please contact us through our website: www.qimd.org with email: qimdenver@aol.com, call us @ 720-201-9166, or mail a check to Quota of Metro Denver, P.O. Box 31611, Aurora, CO 80041. This pilot program has been a major success in 2008, and it has been expanded through September 30, 2009, benefiting many children in our local community.

2008 QUOTA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Quota International held its international convention at the Fairmount Hotel in San Jose, CA, July 11th-15th. 389 members from around the world attended. Quota of Metro Denver had two representatives in attendence, President Regina and District 9 Lt. Governor Raelene. We are proud to say that District 9 was one of only four districts to have at least one member from each of its club participate. Participants attended general business sessions, workshops, and had a great time at the Friday night "Happy Hour", Saturday night "Fiesta Hour", and at Monday night Banquet and Dance. Much was shared and learned about each other's club activities and how to "grow our clubs". The next international convention will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, in July 2010.
