2010 DISTRICT 9 CONFERENCE
Quota of Metro Denver hosted the Annual District 9 Conference in Greenwood Village, CO, on April 23rd-24th. It is always fun to reacquaint ourselves with other Quotarians and to share ideas with members of other district clubs. New officers of the District for 2010-11 were installed after dinner on Saturday night. Governor Raelene Gonzales and Debbie Verhoeff, Secretary-Treasurer, are from our own Denver club, and Debbie Holmes from Estes Park is the new Lt. Governor. Next year, District 9 Conference at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Dates TBA.
DO YOU HAVE ANY USED EYEGLASSES THAT NO LONGER WORK FOR YOU?
Quota of Metro Denver is collecting used eyeglasses to give a local eye doctor. He will be travelling to Panama later this year to distribute to needy individuals. If you have a pair you can spare, please contact us, and we will arrange a pickup.
We are also collecting used hearing aids!
EASTER EGG HUNT
An overnight snowstorm did not keep Quota from holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt for deaf and hearing-impaired children in Aurora. It was held Saturday morning, March 20th, at Generals Park. After the egg hunt, there was face painting, crafts, and refreshments. The participants enjoyed a photo with signing Easter Bunny.

SOUND BEGINNINGS PROJECT UPDATE
Quota of Metro Denver is pleased to be participating in the Sound Beginnings Project, a joint venture between Siemens Hearing Instruments and Quota International, which distributes free hearing aids to qualified children. In 2008, the Denver club provided 35 hearing aids to 18 recipients. In 2009, 16 children received 31 hearing aids. This project has been renewed for a third year. Again, 100 free hearing aids will be distributed across the U.S., and again, Quota of Metro Denver is participating. The aids are available to qualified individuals. The age requirement has been raised to 23 years old. We thank Sertoma for providing us with financial support for this program. Neonatal Hearing Screening Program
The Quota Club of Davao City made history
in 2007 by convincing local lawmakers to
mandate universal infant hearing screening
for all newborns in the community. The club
has worked tirelessly ever since to publicize
the new law and the availability of
screening, improve the screening center in a
local hospital, and establish hearing clinics
throughout Mindanao. The club is currently
working to establish a mobile screening
program by purchasing a vehicle and
another otoacoustic emission (OAE) system
and enhancing the hospital-based screening
center with the purchase of an auditory
brainstem evoked (ABR) testing machine.
Donations will cover needed supplies and
equipment, transportation expenses, and a
secretary’s salary to manage the screening program.
CHRISTMAS PARTY-SERVICE PROJECT The 5th annual Christmas parties for hearing impaired students in the Aurora Public Schools, sponsored by Quota International of Metro Denver, are being held on Wednesday, December 16th and Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Crawford and Dalton Elementary Schools.
